Conceptual model - planning
- Identify the problem - Each student is to design and build the quickest and most aerodynamic CO2 dragster possible.
- Generate Ideas - Document this with the following:
Brainstorming notes
Web charts
Relevant and non-relevant thoughts
Ideas that focus on a specific part of the problem
- Constraints - Measurements - See Blackboard
- Criteria - What factors make the quickest and most aerodynamic CO2 Car? Make sure your criteria are unique.
- Research - Theoretical Research - What have you looked up? Include search terms and summaries. Empirical Research - What have you discovered through trial and error?
-Basic aerodynamic principles/forces
-How do aerodynamics impact automobiles
-Function of CO2 dragsters
Document your research with one of 2 options:
- MLA citations.
- The search term used and the information gained from the term. Include links to great websites.
- Possible Solutions - Each individual has developed a few possible CO2 dragsters. Have sketches of the dragsters along with any notes that help to explain ideas.
- Idea Matrix - Include an image of your matrix. The matrix should compare the possible solutions based on the criteria. They must match.
- Summary - Conclude your planning stage with a summary that explains what solution you chose and why.
Graphical Model - THis happens after conceptual is finished and posted.
SketchUP - Best option for CO2 dragsters
- Clarity - Viewers can easily visualize the design based on the supplied screenshot(s) and descriptive notes.
- Dimensions - The supplied screenshot(s) show all dimensions needed to reproduce the design accurately.
- Neatness - Stray lines have been removed. All faces are in tact. Design is "water tight."
- Detail - Textures have been used and all components of the design have been included.
Mathematical Model - Predictions
- Contribute - Fill out the Google Form for some basic data.
- Analyze - Compare the data provided on the Google Form.
- Predict - Use the data to predict what the fastest cars will be. Explain your predictions
Working Model
- Progress - Document your progress on a regular basis. This assignment is full of great points and not so great points. Be sure to include a detailed account of these points as you go.
- Pictures - Include pictures of your design. If you have them, include building and finished products. Pictures with faces of classmates will count against your grade. If you need assistance acquiring pictures, Just ask. I'll gladly help out with that.
Compare your Graphical model to your working model.
- Adjust your graphical model if needed.
- Have screenshots of your graphical model and use the same views to show off your car.
